Pepetela is the pen name for the Angolan novelist and scholar Artur Carlos Maurício Pestana dos Santos (b. 1941). He has written over 20 books, some of which have been translated into English. These include the novels Mayombe: A novel of the Angolan struggle; Yaka; The Utopian Generation; The Return of the Water Spirit and Jaime Bunda, Secret Agent: Story of various mysteries.
