SS Waratah was built in 1908 for the Blue Anchor Line to operate between Europe and Australia. In July 1909, on her second voyage, en route along the coast from Durban to Cape Town, the steamship disappeared with 211 passengers and crew aboard. No trace of the ship has ever been found.

Blogger Andrew van Rensburg has been fascinated by the mystery of SS Waratah for many years. He lives in Morreesburg.
