"I praise the fact that the author adopts an Africanist perspective by evoking from the repository of traditional cultural knowledge to dissect a hybrid ‘art form’ that takes its roots from African oral tradition but whose practice is largely influenced by western traditions. Indeed, the author shows in a unique way that Africanist scholars can derive theoretical views from inherent African practices, and to me, this is ingenious ... This is a beautifully written book. It presents an accessible exposition to the history, practice and cultural effects of Nigerian stand-up comedy."
