In August 1991 MTS Oceanos, a French-built and Greek-owned cruise ship sailing from East London to Durban in treacherous weather, sank due to uncontrolled flooding. Her captain and some of the crew were convicted of negligence for fleeing the ship without helping the passengers, who were rescued through the efforts of the on-board entertainers.

"Andrew's story portrays why the Oceanos can be called a miraculous rescue." Captain Nicholas Sloane, salvage master of the Costa Concordia

Maritime lawyer Andrew Pike was part of the legal investigation into the Oceanos' sinking.
