A collection of previously unpublished essays on race, colonialism and Marxism by Pan Africanist historian Walter Rodney.

Guyanese intellectual and political activist Walter Rodney (1942-1980) led anti-colonial movements in on the African continent, in North America and in the Caribbean. In 1968, while teaching at the University of the West Indies in Mona, the Jamaican government banned him from ever returning to Jamaica and he was dismissed from his position, sparking what became known as the Rodney riots. He was Professor of History at the University of Dar es Salaam (1969-1974), before returning to Guyana to take up a position as Professor at the University of Huyana. After the government prevented his appointment he became increasingly active in politics, founding the Working People's Alliance in opposition to the People's National Congress government. He was assassinated in 1980 in Georgetown. His books include How Europe Underdeveloped Africa.
