Karen Esler is Professor in the Department of Conservation Ecology and Entomology, Stellenbosch University. She is a core team member of DST-NRF Centre of Excellence for Invasion Biology, and an associate of the Stellenbosch University Water Institute. She co-edited Karoo Veld Ecology and Management.

Shirley Pierce is a plant ecologist and science communication consultant. She is co-author of Namaqualand, a succulent desert and East of the Cape, conserving Eden, and author of The STEP Handbook: Integrating the natural environment into land use decisions at the municipal level: towards sustainable development 

Charl de Villiers is an environmental consultant and lectures on biodiversity and integrated environmental management at the three Western Cape universities. He is co-author of SANBI's Grasslands Ecosystem Guidelines.
