John Dunn's autobiography, originally published in 1886 and edited by Duncan Campbell Francis Moodie, with a new foreword by Arthur Köningkrämer, Ron Lock and Peter Quantrill. It covers the political and military role he played during the invasion of Zululand, his post-war manoeuvring and his opinions of Wolseley, Chelmsford and Crealock.

John Dunn (1834-1895) was advisor and confidant to King Cetshwayo, labour recruiter for the Natal colonial government, Lord Chelmsford's military and political advisor during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, Sir Garnet Wolsley's post-war political advisor, and the holder of vast tracts of land north of the Thukela River.
