Former politician and diplomat Glenn Babb was born in 1943 in Johannesburg. He joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1967, worked at South African embassies in Paris and Rome and served as South Africa's ambassador to Canada, before being appointed Deputy Director-general of the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1987. A National Party MP under President de Klerk for two years, he returned to the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1991 and was appointed South Africa's ambassador to Italy. He left government service in 1995 and more recently has been a businessman and entrepreneur.
