Njideka Akunyili was born in 1983 in Emugu, Nigeria, moved to the USA in 1999, and lives in Los Angeles. In 2016 she was named Financial Times Woman of the Year, and in 2017 was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship Genius grant.

Simone Leigh was born in 1967 in Chicago to Jamaican missionaries. She was chosen to represent the United States at the 2022 Venice Biennale and was awarded a Golden Lion for her work Brick House in the main exhibition. She lives in New York City.
