Biography of former ANC member and uMkhonto we Sizwe operative Shadrack Maphumulo. Maphumulo was one of the 19 accused in the 1964 Natal Sabotage Trial and was sentenced 10 years on Robben Island. After his release in 1975, he was restricted to his parents' kraal in rural Maphumulo, where he had grown up, and later to Inanda outside Durban. After having suffered detention without trial, interrogation and torture he went into exile in Swaziland in 1981. He was abducted and killed by South African special forces on 12th December 1986.
Former ANC operative Dhayiah (Joe) Pillay interviewed Maphumulo in 1983, while they were both part of the ANC underground network in Swaziland. After Maphumulo's death he fled Swaziland to join his wife in Edmonton, Canada, where he wrote this book.
