Biography of Gerald Clarke (1909-1981) who served as a Rhodesian civil servant for 43 years. He was under-secretary in Sir Godfrey Huggins’ cabinet office (1950–52), cabinet secretary and secretary to Prime Ministers Garfield Todd, Sir Edgar Whitehead, Winston Field, and Ian Smith (1953-70), and involved in the Central Intelligence Organisation (1963–70). He retired to Inyanga in 1971 and died in 1981.
Duncan Clarke was born in Salisbury (now Harare) in 1948. His books include Zambesia, the literary safari; The Last Rhodesians; Rhodes' Ghost: The conquest of Zambesia; Africa's Future: Darkness to destiny, and Cecil Rhodes' Library. He founded Global Pacific & Partners in 1978. In 2016 he established Royal Sable Publishing. He lives in the UK.
