Stories collected from a group of Upington women of mixed cultural descent who shared their beliefs surrounding the Water Snake with Mary Lange.

The original regional Afrikaans narrations by Johanna (Nana) de Wee, Martha van Rooi, Maria (Mokkie) Malo, Noxolo (Girlie) Prescilla Seaman and Elizabeth (Bessa) Sixaxa are supplemented by an English translation and illustrated by regional artist Betta Steyn.
