Pie-Pacifique grew up in Kigali, Rwanda, and survived the 1994 genocide. Forced to flee, he ended up in South Africa, where he worked as a car guard in Durban before managing to enrol at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He completed a degree in physics and was awarded the Mandela-Rhodes Scholarship in 2006. He is currently founding director of the managing and consulting company PEM Afurika. He lives in Pretoria.
