South African film producer Anant Singh was born and raised in Durban. He has produced more than 100 films from the mid-1980s to the present, including Place of Weeping, The Stick, Cry, the Beloved Country, Sarafina!, the AIDS-awareness film Yesterday (South Africa’s first Oscar-nominated film) and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. He is the founder and CEO of the Videovision Entertainment Group and chair of Cape Town Film Studios. He is a member of the International Olympic Committee, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He is the recipient of the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Award, and is the first man to receive the International Women’s Forum Legacy Award.
