Charles Griffiths is Emeritus Professor and Senior Scholar in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cape Town, and was Director of the UCT Marine Biology Research Centre for 17 years up to his retirement in 2013. He is the author of eight guide books to South African fauna, including Two Oceans – a Guide to the Marine Life of South Africa; Field Guide to the Insects of South Africa and Freshwater Life.

Matthew Griffiths, Charles Griffith's son, is a filmmaker and content creator, and the driving force behind the video series.
