Memoir by lawyer and politician Leon Wessels (b. 1946), Advocate of the High Court of South Africa since 1973. He was a National Party Member of Parliament for Krugersdorp, Deputy Minister of Law and Order, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and held numerous Cabinet positions in the apartheid government. He participated in the CODESA negotiations and served as Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Assembly. He stepped down from Parliament and politics at the inception of the final Constitution in 1996. He served as a Commissioner of the South African Human Rights Commission. He is currently Honorary Professor of Law at North-West University, a member of the Constitution Hill Trust and a member of the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution.
