Yusuf Chubb Garda (b. 1939) grew up in a Muslim Indian family in Fietas, played cricket and later worked as an English teacher In 1971. He was detained without trail and spent 27 days in solitary confinement at John Vorster Square police station. In the late 1970s he photographed Fietas being demolished under the Group Areas Act. His family were forcibly removed to Lenasia.
