“This report is based on material prepared for the Anti-Slavery Society and submitted by them in 1977 to the Third Session of the Working Group of Experts on Slavery of the United Nations Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities.”

About the Publishers:

The International Defence and Aid Fund for Southern Africa has the following objectives:

1. To aid, defend, and rehabilitate the victims of unjust legislation and oppressive and arbitrary procedures.

2. To support their families and dependents.

3. To keep the conscience of the world alive to the issues at stake.

Statement Made by a Namibian Contract Worker (Windhoek, 1977):

“We are dissatisfied with the fact that our mineral resources and other wealth are being exported. They are squeezing our country dry. Because it is a fact that this country is our country. We are in the majority in this country and we are the very people who are suffering, while the foreigners who have come from somewhere in our country are the ones who are giving the orders and getting all the wealth of our country.”

Taken from the Back of the Book:

“The Workers of Namibia” describes the conditions of the black workforce. It also shows how the demands of Namibian working people for improved wages and working conditions are met with resistance, exploitation, and ongoing oppression.
