"Legal opinion on the chapter by Leo Kuper entitled 'African Nationalism in South Africa 1910-1964' was to the effect that it infringed South African law in many respects, mainly by references to books and articles dealing with African Nationalism, policy statements of the African National Congress, and statements by African leaders. In the circumstances, the publishers and editors decided that the better course was to exclude Professor Kuper's chapter from the South African edition. It is with great regret that the decision has been taken to exclude this scholarly contribution, but it is available in precisely the form in which it was written, in this edition of the general History."
