From the Preface:

To mark the centenary of the publication of The Story of an African Farm and to honour its author, Olive Schreiner, the Institute for the Study of English in Africa undertook to make available to students of Southern African literature two lesser-known writings by her husband, Samuel Cronwright-Schreiner.

These are:

  • The Nienaber Affair, a compelling section originally excised from his biography The Life of Olive Schreiner, and

  • The Re-interment on Buffels Kop, which appears to be a preliminary draft for an illustrated memorial publication that ultimately never came to fruition.

Together, these texts offer rare insights into the personal and public legacy of Olive Schreiner and the enduring significance of her work in the literary and cultural life of Southern Africa.
