The exhibition opened at the Museum of Science and Technology, Accra, in February 2021, and toured Ghana. It presents a selection of photographs from the Heritage Photo Lab and portrays social life in Ghana from the 1950s to the 1970s. The Heritage Photo Lab is a project hosted by the J.H. Kwabena Nketia Archives and held at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon.

"What this book does is offer glimpses through some of the sites, spaces and venues that hosted iterations of the exhibition 'Simply iconic: Vintage images off the beaten track'. These come in the forms of photos, essays and a particularly experimental textual and image intervention." from Bernard Akoi-Jackson's  introduction

Contributions include:

"Reflecting on Three Years of the Project" by Heike Friesel

"Historic, memborable and nostalgic photos" by John Owoo

"Heritage Photo Lab (HPL) Project at the Institute of African Studies - preserving photos to tell the Ghanaian history" by Judith Opoku-Boateng.
