A play created around the 1956 trial of Dedan Kimathi, the leader of the Mau Mau rebellion against the British colonial regime in Kenya. Kimathi was hanged in 1957.

Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o was born in Limuru, Kenya, in 1938. He is the author of A Grain of Wheat, Weep Not, Child, Petals of Blood, Birth of a Dream Weaver, Wrestling with the Devil and Minutes of Glory. He is Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine.

Micere Githae Mugo is the author of the poetry collection Daughter of My People, Sing, the play The Long Illness of ex-Chief Kiti and a book of criticism, Visions of Africa. She is Professor of Literature in the Department of African American Studies at Syracuse University.
