Most of the poems in this collection were written in isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 and 2021.

Afrikaans poet and academic Lina Spies was awarded the 1972 Eugène Marais Prize and 1972 Ingrid Jonker Prize, for her first volume of poetry, Digby vergenoeg. Her translation of Anne Frank's diaries, Die agterhuis (2008), was awarded the translation prize by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns. She was Professor in the Department of Afrikaans and Dutch at Stellenbosch University from 1987 to 1999. In March 2006 she was elected a member of the Stellenbosch University Council. Her poetry collections include Tydelose gety (2010), Tirza (2014) and Sulamiet (2016).
