South African playwright and poet Adam Small was born in Wellington in the Western Cape in 1936. He is known for his use of the Kaaps dialect. In 2012 he was awarded the Hertzog Prize for his contribution to the drama genre. He died in 2016. His poetry collections include Kitaar my kruis, Sê Sjibbolet, Oos wes tuis bes: Distrik Ses, with photographs by Chris Jansen, Black bronze beautiful: quatrains and District Six, with photographs by Jansje Wissema.
