Randall Langa Peteni (1915 – 2000) studied at Lovedale and the University College of Fort Hare. He worked as a teacher before lecturing in English at the University of Fort Hare from 1969 until his retirement in 1981. He was appointed Chancellor of the University of Transkei in 1989.
