In a Hampstead pub in the 1950s doctoral student Michael Udomo is introduced into London’s revolutionary community of exiled African activists and is inspired to return to his country Panafrica to overthrow the British colonialists.

Peter Abrahams (1919 -2017) was born in Johannesburg. His publications include Dark Testament, a collection of short stories, the novels Song of the City, Path of Thunder, Wild Conquest, A Wreath for Udomo, A Night of their Own, This Island Now, and the autobiography Tell Freedom: memories of Africa. Abrahams went into exile in 1939 and eventually settled in Jamaica, where he was editor of the West Indian Economist, a commentator on Jamaica's radio and television and a radio news network controller of West Indian News.
