Novel based on South Africans' experiences of living under the Immortality Act, promulgated in 1927. The Act prohibited sexual intercourse between a person classified White and a person classified Black. Amended in 1950, its scope was widened to forbid sexual relations between people classified White and people classified Non-White, ie people classified Black, Coloured, Indian and Chinese. The Act was repealed in 1985.
Elwyn Bonhomme was born in 1946 in Durban. He retired as Principal of Charles Hugo Primary School in 2006. He is the author of two historical novels, Chasing of the Wind and People of the Shadows.
