Gilbert Gibson was born on a farm near Marquard in the Free State in 1963. His first volume of poetry, "Boomplaats" received the Protea Poetry Prize in 2006. "Boomplaats" was also shortlisted for the Ingrid Jonker Prize. He lives in Bloemfontein, where he practices as a medical doctor.
