Debbie Loots was born in Polokwane, Limpopo, and lives in Cape Town. She holds an honours degree in fine art from Michaelis and an MA in creative writing from UCT. She was VISI’s features writer before freelancing for Mail & Guardian, Rapport, ELLE, VISI and Weg! Platteland, among others. She is currently the editor of REAL|life magazine. Her debut novel, Split, received the 2016 ATKV Woordveertjie prize for fiction.
