Buchi Emecheta was born of Ibo parents in Nigeria in 1944. She moved to London in 1962. Her novels include The Joys of MotherhoodThe Slave Girl, The Family, The Bride Price, Destination Biafra and Double Yoke. Following her success as an author, Emecheta travelled widely as a visiting professor and lecturer. She died in 2017.
