Former policeman Derek Huggins was the founding director of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) in 1975, the same year he and his artist wife Helen Leiros opened Gallery Delta in Harare. He also published Arts Rhodesia, Arts Zimbabwe and Gallery magazines He died in 2021, a few days after his wife.
