The Official Companion book to the performance art project, "The Walk".

From July to November 2021, Little Amal, a 3.5m-high puppet of a nine-year-old refugee girl created by Handspring Puppet Company, travelled 8,000km from the Syrian border along the established refugee route through Turkey, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and France in search of her mother. "The Walk", ended at the Manchester International Festival.

Introduction by Nizar Zuabi, artistic director of Good Chance Theatre. Afterword by David Lan, one of the producers of "The Walk".

Includes essays by Samar Yazbek (Syria), Burhan Sönmez (Turkey), Petros Markaris (Greece), Philippe Claudel and Olivier Norek (France), Cressida Cowell (UK); crime writer Olivier Norek whose fiction has been set in Calais' The Jungle (France); and Timur Vermes (Germany).

Handspring Puppet Company, founded in Cape Town in 1981, famously created the War Horse puppets. Founders Adrian Kohler and Basil Jones came out of retirement to help create and build Little Amal.
