Jaki Seroke was born in Alexandra township in 1960. He attended meetings of the South African Students Movement and the Student Christian Movement and in 1977 was nominated into the executive committee of the Alex Students League. He was a co-founder of Skotaville Publishers and edited the literary magazines The Classic and Staffrider. A member of Azapo, he spent twelve years in prison on Robben Island, where he became an executive member of the General Recreation Council. After his release in 1991 he served as Secretary for Political Affairs in the National Executive Council of the PAC and was a delegate at the Convention for a Democratic South Africa (CODESA). He lives in Ekurhuleni in Gauteng.
