Zulu was special editor of Volume 2 of the South African Journal of African Languages, on the literary history of African languages (2003), and co-editor of the special section 43:1 of the South African Journal of African Languages, on the literary works of the writer K.D.P. Maphalla (2022).

Thulani Mkhize is a senior lecturer in English Studies, with a special focus on African literature, and academic leader for Literary Arts, University of KwaZulu-Natal. She was editor-in-chief of the South African Journal of African Languages from 2020 to 2023.
