Norwegian land-surveyor Ingvar Schroder-Nielsen's account of his experiences with the Boer forces during the Anglo-Boer War was first published in 1925 in Norway under the title "Blandt Boerne i Fred og Krig".
Schroder-Nielsen arrived in Cape Town in 1898, and lived and worked among the Boers in the Bushveld of the Transvaal Republic. Appalled by the destruction of farms by the British forces and the incarceration of civilians in concentration camps, he joined the Boer forces, was captured, transferred from prison to prison, and finally incarcerated in a prisoner-of-war camp in the Bermuda Islands. On his release in 1902 he returned to Norway.
