Igbo novelist, short story writer and children's author Cyprian Odiatu Duaka Ekwensi (1921 – 2007) was Head of Features at the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation and Director of the Ministry of Information during the First Republic. His many books include Lokotown and Other Stories, People of the City, Jagua Nana, Jagua Nana's Daughter and For a Roll of Parchment. In 1968, he received the Dag Hammarskjöld International Prize in Literature. In 1981, he helped form the Association of Nigerian Authors and, in 2001, was made a member of the Order of the Federal Republic for his outstanding contributions to the nation.
