Foreword by Aleida Guevara. Introductions by Roberto Saviano and Gabriel García Márquez.
First published in the USA in 2011.
In April 1965, medical doctor and Argentine Marxist revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara set out clandestinely from Havana to Congo to head a force of Cuban soldiers to assist the Congolese Patrice Lumumba Battalion, four years after the assassination of the democratically elected President of Congo, Patrice Lumumba.
In his diary Guevara examines what went wrong in a mission he admits was a "failure" in order to draw constructive lessons for planned future guerrilla movements.
