A collection of journalism on race, racism and black life and death, written during Gary Younge's 28-year-long journalistic career, almost half of which he spent in the USA. Most of the pieces are from the Guardian, where he spent 25 of those years.

"No single journalist has done more to shape my understanding of Black diaspora's experiences in the world today - Gary Younge's is not a first draft of history, but storytelling that will survive us all. This book is a reminder of why his work is as timeless and vital as ever." Afua Hirsch

"The past 30 years saw the end of apartheid, the election of Barack Obama and the foundation of the Black Lives Matter movement. Gary Younge has been there on the frontline throughout this time, translating history into words fused with truth, power and illumination." David Lammy
