The National Education Crisis Committee (NECC), later the National Education Coordinating Committee, was an intergenerational social movement that united South African students, parents and teachers in schools and universities between 1985 and 1995, advocating for 'People's Education for People's Power' and working to transform the education system.

Contributions by Linda Chisholm, Shireen Motala, Yogesh Narsing, Terri Maggott, Charissa Shay-Sithole, Elaine Unterhalter and June Bam.

Linda Chisholm is Emeritus Professor at the Centre for Education Rights and Transformation at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa.

Yogesh Narsing was politically active during the 70s and 80s and became a ‘runner’ for Eric Molobi, a leader in the NECC.

Shireen Motala is SARChI Chair at the University of Johannesburg.

June Bam is professor in Education at the University of Johannesburg and Director of the Centre for Education Rights and Transformation (CERT).

Elaine Unterhalter is Professor of Education and International Development at University College London.

Terri Maggott is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Johannesburg.

Charissa Shay-Sithole holds a Masters in Education and Education History and has lectured at the University of Johannesburg.
