Mzala Mxumalo (1955-1991) went into exile in 1976 following the Soweto uprising and joined the African National Congress, Umkhonto weSizwe and the South African Communist Party. He worked as an underground operative and military leader and became a major revolutionary intellectual. He died in London in February 1991 at the age of 35

Robert J Balfour was Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences on the Potchefstroom Campus of North West University. He was appointed as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) in 2017.
