South African botanical artist Joan Van Gogh was born in 1939. She has illustrated The flora of the Witwatersrand Vol 1: The Monocotyledons edited by T.K. Lowrev and S. Wright (1987), Poisonous plants in South African gardens and parks - a field guide by Joan Mundy (1988); Book of herbs - the medicinal & culinary uses of herbs in South Africa (1983) by Margaret Roberts, Magic of the Pilansberg - a complete guide to the park by North West Conservation, and the SAPPl-sponsored Tree Spotting Series. She was commissioned by the SA Philatelic Services to illustrate a series of three sets of South African postal stamps issued from 1998 - 2000. She sells and prints and original work from her studio-home in Johannesburg.
