She was the science editor for Business Day and the Mail & Guardian.  In 2013 she was named the best science journalist in Africa by Siemens in their Pan-African Profiles Awards. In 2015 she received the Dow Technology and Innovation Reporting award at the CNN Multichoice African Journalist of the Year awards. In 2017 she became the first African to win a AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award.
