A monograph on self-taught Tanzanian artist Sungi Mlengeya.

Includes an essay by curator Tandazani Dhlakama, a short essay by Suzanne McFayden, and an intimate conversation between Sungi Mlengeya and her model, Jemima Michael.

Born in 1991 in Dar es Salaam, Sungi Mlengeya has gained recognition for her monochromatic acrylic portraits of Black women set against a minimalist white background. In 2020, she was named one of Apollo's 40 Under 40 Africa, a selection the most inspirational young people in the African art world; and in 2022 was included on the Johnnie Walker and Trace Africa Top 30 list of leading creatives in the continent. Her solo exhibition (Un)choreographed marked the reopening of The Africa Centre in London in 2022.
