The Adventures of Intambo and Mafuta is a comic-strip / illustrated story series set in Natal, South Africa, featuring the Botshongweni family. It was published in two volumes under the conditions of paper shortage which limited the print run. The comic strip combines illustration and accompanying text, and includes a glossary of Zulu words.

Monty Wilson was writing in 1940s South Africa, and the comics reflect the colonial, paternalistic, and stereotypical portrayals of African people that were common in white-produced media at the time. Characters like Intambo and Mafuta were often used for humour at the expense of Zulu speech, customs, and daily life, drawn from a white outsider’s perspective.
