Ngugi wa Thiong’o was born in 1938, in Limuru, Kenya. His work includes novels, plays, short stories, memoirs and literary criticism. His novels include Weep Not, Child, The River Between, A Grain of Wheat, Petals of Blood, Devil on the Cross and The Perfect Nine: the epic of Gĩkũyũ and Mũmbi. His plays include I Will Marry When I Want (with Ngugi wa Mirii) and The Trial of Dedan Kimathi (with Micere Githae Mugo).
