Petina Gappah was born in 1971 in Zambia and raised in Zimbabwe. She works as an international lawyer in Geneva, Switzerland. She is the author of Out of the Darkness, Shining Light and the collections of short stories Rotten Row and An Elergy for Easterly which won the 2009 Guardian First Book Award.
