John (Jack) Sherwood Kelly (1880-1931) was born in Lady Frere in the Cape Colony. As a young man He saw action in the Matabele revolt in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), in the Relief of Mafeking, and during the Zululand Bambatha Rebellion.

During the First World War he was awarded the DSO for his actions in Gallipoli, and the VC for his role in the early success achieved during the Battle of Cambrai. His later service during the British intervention against the Bolsheviks in 1919 ended in court martial. After he was found guilty he resigned from the Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and entered politics.

Philip Bujak was born in Norfolk. He joined the British army as a young man and served with The Royal Anglian Regiment as a commissioned officer. He worked as a history teacher and was Headmaster of Stover School in Devon and CEO of Montessori in the UK. He is now retired.
