Alain Mabanckou was born in 1966 in Congo and lives in Los Angeles, where he teaches literature at UCLA. His novels include The Lights of Pointe-Noire (2016 French Voices Award) and Black Moses (2018 Zola Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Legacy Award).
