A biographical portrait of Zimbabwean author Yvonne Vera, told through the letters and columns she wrote about plants and gardens.
In 2022 Tadiwa Madenga travelled to Bulawayo to visit the two houses where Vera had lived after she returned to Zimbabwe from Canada. She also visited the National gallery, where Vera had been curator, and the Chronicle newspaper headquarters, where she had worked.
Yvonne Vera (1964-2005) is the author of the collection of short stories, Why Don't You Carve Other Animals (1992), and the novels Nehanda (1993), Without a Name (1994), Under the Tongue (1996), Butterfly Burning (1998), and The Stone Virgins (2002).
Tadiwa Madenga teaches in the English Department at the University of California Berkeley.
