This is an unnumbered copy, inscribed and signed by F.D. Sinclair. 

"Sinclair settled in South Africa in 1946 after spending a few years in Bloemfontein as a member of the RAF Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He studied at University of the Witwatersrand, and subsequently at the University of South Africa where he later became a lecturer. Sinclair wrote volumes of poetry entitled April to March (1942, published in Scotland), The Nine Altars (1945), The Cold Veld (1946) and Lovers and Hermits (1957). His work entitled The Island: A Metamorphosis (1951) was a sensitive poetic evocation of Zanzibar. Sinclair's poetry is represented in major South African anthologies, and in 1961 the first Olive Schreiner Prize was awarded to him posthumously by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie. Sinclair also wrote works of literary criticism entitled Three papers on tragedy (1960) and The chronology of Gray's Elegy: an essay on the origin of the poem (1963) which was published posthumously."
